Have you ever thrown a ball against a wall? What happens? It bounces right back to you! Karma is a lot like that. Whatever you send out into the world comes back to you.
Karma is a special Sanskrit word that means "what you do." Every time you do something — share a toy, help your mom, smile at a friend — that is karma. And here is the magical part: good things you do come back to you as good things!
Let us hear a little story.
Once upon a time, there was a little squirrel named Gilu. Gilu lived in a big mango tree. One hot summer day, Gilu found a cool stream of water. He was very thirsty and drank happily.
Then Gilu saw a tiny ant nearby. The ant looked tired and thirsty too. Gilu could have just walked away. But he did not. He picked up a small leaf, dipped it in the water, and carried the little drop to the ant.
"Thank you, friend!" said the ant.
Many days later, Gilu was sleeping on a branch when a large hawk flew down to catch him! Gilu did not see it coming. But guess who did? The tiny ant! The ant bit the hawk's foot as hard as it could. "Ouch!" cried the hawk, and it flew away. Gilu was safe!
The ant's help came back to Gilu because Gilu had helped the ant first. That is karma!
In our holy book, the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna tells us that every action matters. Even small ones! When you pick up a piece of trash, that is good karma. When you say "please" and "thank you," that is good karma. When you hug someone who is sad, that is good karma too.
Think of karma like planting seeds in a garden. If you plant a mango seed, you get a sweet mango tree. If you plant a neem seed, you get a bitter neem tree. Good actions are like mango seeds — they grow into sweet and wonderful things in your life.
But what about bad actions? If you push someone or say mean words, those are like throwing a muddy ball at a wall. The mud splashes right back on you! That is why we try to always choose kind actions.
Here are some easy ways to make good karma every day:
- Share your snack with a friend. - Help set the table at home. - Be kind to animals. - Tell the truth, even when it is hard. - Say sorry when you make a mistake.
Remember, nobody is watching you with a big scorecard. Karma is not about getting a prize. It is about how your actions make the world a better place — and how that goodness always finds its way back to you.
You do not have to do something huge. Even a smile is a good deed. Even holding the door for someone is a good deed. Lord Krishna says that no good action is ever wasted. Every single one counts!
So the next time you have a choice — to be kind or to be mean, to help or to walk away — remember little Gilu and the ant. Choose the kind thing. Plant that mango seed. And watch the sweetness come back to you.
Karma is your superpower. Use it well!
