Have you ever had a best friend? Someone you would do anything for? Today we are going to learn about the greatest friend in all the stories of India. His name is Hanuman!

Hanuman was very special. He looked like a monkey, but he was no ordinary monkey. He was strong, brave, and very, very kind. He could fly through the sky, grow as big as a mountain, or become as tiny as a bug. But the most special thing about Hanuman was his big, loving heart.

When Hanuman was a little baby, he was very hungry one morning. He looked up at the sky and saw the sun. "Oh, what a big orange fruit!" he thought. Baby Hanuman jumped all the way up to the sky to grab the sun! Can you imagine that? He was that strong, even as a baby!

When Hanuman grew up, he met someone wonderful — Lord Rama. Rama was a prince, kind and good. The moment Hanuman met Rama, he felt so much love in his heart. He said, "I will be your friend and helper forever." This special love is called Bhakti. Bhakti means loving God with your whole heart.

One day, something very sad happened. A bad king named Ravana took Rama's wife, Sita, far away to an island called Lanka. Rama was very worried. "How will I find Sita?" he asked.

Hanuman said, "Do not worry! I will find her for you!" He took a deep breath, made himself very big, and jumped across the whole ocean! Splash! Whoosh! He flew over the waves and the fish and landed on the island.

Hanuman searched and searched. He looked in gardens and palaces. Finally, he found Sita sitting under a tree. She was sad and missed Rama. Hanuman said gently, "Do not be afraid. Rama sent me. He is coming to save you." He gave her Rama's ring so she would know it was true. Sita smiled for the first time in a long time.

When it was time to fight the bad king, Rama's brother Lakshmana got very hurt. He needed a special plant from a mountain far away to get better. Hanuman flew to the mountain, but there were so many plants! He did not know which one to pick. So what did he do? He picked up the whole mountain and carried it back! That is how strong and caring Hanuman was.

After Rama won the battle and everyone was safe, Rama wanted to give Hanuman a gift. But Hanuman said, "I do not need gifts. Loving you is my gift." Then Hanuman opened his chest, and right there inside his heart was a picture of Rama and Sita. He kept them in his heart always.

What can we learn from Hanuman? We can learn to be a good friend. When someone needs help, we can be brave and say, "I will help you!" We can learn that love is the strongest power of all. Hanuman could fly and carry mountains, but his greatest strength was his love.

You can be like Hanuman too! When you help your mom or dad, that is seva — it means serving with love. When you are kind to your friends, that is bhakti in action. When you are brave even when something is scary, that is courage, just like Hanuman.

So remember: be strong, be kind, and love with your whole heart — just like Hanuman, the greatest friend the world has ever known!

Jai Hanuman!
