Peaceful mind brings sweet dreams

Have you ever looked up at the night sky? The moon glows softly. The stars twinkle like tiny lamps. Do you know who put them there? God did! And every night, God watches over you while you sleep.

Long, long ago, children in India would fold their hands before bedtime and say a special prayer. These prayers are called shlokas. A shloka is like a little song for God. When you say a shloka, it is like giving God a gentle hug with your words.

Let us learn a very simple bedtime shloka together!

Karaagre Vasate Lakshmi Karamadhye Saraswati Karamoole Tu Govinda Prabhaate Karadarshanam

This shloka says something beautiful. It tells us that goodness lives right in our own hands! Lakshmi, the goddess of good things, is at our fingertips. Saraswati, the goddess of learning, is in the middle of our hands. And Govinda, another name for Lord Krishna, is at the base of our hands. So when you wake up, look at your hands first. They are full of blessings!

But wait — why do we say this at night too? Because when we go to sleep thinking about God, we wake up feeling happy and safe.

Here is a little story. There was a boy named Adi. Every night, Adi was scared of the dark. He would pull his blanket over his head and squeeze his eyes shut. One night, his grandmother sat beside him. She said, "Adi, do you know that Lord Vishnu never sleeps? He rests on a great ocean, but his eyes are always watching over good children like you."

Adi asked, "Really, Grandma? He watches over me?"

"Yes," she smiled. "And when you say your bedtime shloka, it is like telling Lord Vishnu — I am ready to sleep now. Please keep me safe."

That night, Adi folded his hands, closed his eyes, and said his shloka. He felt warm and calm inside. He was not scared anymore. He slept so well that he had the happiest dream about playing with peacocks in a garden!

You can do what Adi did. Every night, before you lie down, sit on your bed. Fold your hands together. Close your eyes softly. Take a deep breath in and a deep breath out. Then say your shloka slowly. You do not have to be loud. Even a whisper is enough. God has very good ears!

After your shloka, think of three good things from your day. Maybe you shared your toys. Maybe you helped Amma in the kitchen. Maybe you saw a butterfly. Say "Thank you" to God for these happy moments.

Another short prayer you can say is:

Om Namah Shivaya

This means "I bow to Lord Shiva." Shiva is very kind. He loves all children. Saying his name makes your heart feel peaceful, like a still pond with no ripples.

Here are some easy things to do every night:

1. Wash your hands and feet before bed. 2. Sit quietly on your bed. 3. Fold your hands and say your shloka. 4. Think of three happy things from today. 5. Smile and lie down.

When you make this a habit, something magical happens. Your mind becomes calm like a sleeping kitten. Bad dreams stay far away. And you wake up the next morning feeling fresh and cheerful, ready for a brand new day.

Remember, God loves you very much. Saying your bedtime shloka is like sending a goodnight letter to God. And God always writes back — with peaceful sleep and sweet dreams.

So tonight, will you try it? Fold your hands, close your eyes, and whisper your prayer. Goodnight, little one. God is watching over you.
