A long, long time ago, in a beautiful kingdom called Ayodhya, there lived a kind and brave prince named Rama. Everyone in the kingdom loved Rama because he was always good, always honest, and always helped others. His father was King Dasharatha, who loved Rama very, very much.
Rama had a wonderful wife named Sita. Sita was as kind and beautiful as a lotus flower. Rama also had three brothers — Lakshmana, Bharata, and Shatrughna. They all loved each other so much! Lakshmana was Rama's best friend and always stayed by his side.
One day, something sad happened. Because of a promise the king had made long ago, Rama had to leave his palace and go live in the forest for fourteen years. That is a very long time! But Rama did not cry or get angry. He smiled and said, "A promise must always be kept." Sita and Lakshmana loved Rama so much that they said, "We will come with you!" And off they went together into the big green forest.
In the forest, they lived in a little hut. They ate fruits and berries. They made friends with birds, deer, and monkeys. It was like a big camping trip! They were happy because they were together.
But there was a bad king named Ravana who lived far away on an island called Lanka. Ravana had ten heads! Can you imagine that? Ten whole heads! Ravana was very powerful, but he was not kind. One day, Ravana played a trick and took Sita away to his island. Poor Sita was so sad and missed Rama very much.
Rama was heartbroken. He said, "I must find Sita and bring her home!" Lakshmana held his hand and said, "I will help you, brother."
As they searched for Sita, they met a very special friend — Hanuman! Hanuman was a monkey god who was super strong and super brave. He could fly through the sky and was as big as a mountain when he wanted to be! Hanuman loved Rama with all his heart.
Hanuman flew all the way across the big ocean to Lanka. He found Sita sitting in a garden, feeling sad. He gave her Rama's ring and said, "Do not worry! Rama is coming to save you!" Sita felt so happy and hopeful.
Then Rama, Lakshmana, Hanuman, and a whole army of brave monkeys and bears built a giant bridge across the ocean. Stone by stone, they worked together. They marched to Lanka to bring Sita home.
There was a big battle. Rama fought Ravana bravely. It was very hard because Ravana was so powerful with his ten heads. But Rama was good and true, and good always wins in the end. Rama defeated Ravana and rescued Sita!
Everyone was so happy! Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana flew home in a magical flying chariot called the Pushpaka Vimana. When they reached Ayodhya, all the people lit little oil lamps called diyas to welcome them home. The whole city sparkled like stars on the ground. This is why we celebrate Diwali — the festival of lights!
Rama became the king of Ayodhya, and he was the best king ever. He was fair and kind to everyone. People still say "Ram Rajya" when they talk about a perfect, happy kingdom.
The story of the Ramayana teaches us to always be good, to love our family, to help our friends, and to keep our promises — just like Rama did.
