Daśāṃśa

Dashamsha is the D-10 divisional chart (varga) in Vedic astrology (Jyotiṣa), created by dividing each zodiac sign into ten equal parts of three degrees each. It is the primary tool for analyzing a person's career, professional achievements, social standing, and public reputation. Astrologers examine planetary placements and strengths within this chart to assess the nature, timing, and success of one's professional life.

Dashamsha reveals the karmic blueprint of one's svadharma as expressed through worldly action and vocation. It reflects how the soul's accumulated saṃskāras manifest as professional inclinations and the capacity for meaningful contribution to society. Through this lens, one's career is not merely livelihood but a vehicle for fulfilling one's dharmic obligations and progressing spiritually through niṣkāma karma.

At the highest level, Dashamsha points to the cosmic principle that the One divides itself into measured portions to sustain the order (ṛta) of creation. Just as Puruṣa is divided in the Puruṣa Sūkta to give rise to the social and cosmic order, the tenfold division symbolizes the completeness of manifest reality expressing itself through purposeful action — each being an instrument of the divine will enacting its assigned role in the grand yajña of existence.
